Design, Manufacture & Installation

Apex were recently commissioned to design, manufacture and install a reel stand assembly that would interface with a new machine that our customer had just installed. The new reel stand allowed the customer to introduce a laminating layer of material into the existing web path. Pictured opposite the reel stand is fitted with two Svecom air shafts and a Nexgen web tension control unit.

To load the reels at high level Apex designed and installed a purpose built twin hoist lifting gantry system. The gantry crane bridge was fitted with a pair of tandem operated electric chain hoists connected at fixed centers with a tie bar. This method of lifting gives the operator complete control of the reel orientation even when the reel is raised out of the operator’s reaches.

For ease of use and safe operation the crane bridge travel speed was servo controlled and all crane functions are transmitted with a hand held radio controller.

Print & Packaging - Machine Refurbishment

The picture opposite shows a four colour in line printing press that was completely refurbished here at Apex. The printing press was required for the in line printing on a new bag manufacturing machine. The press was completely dismantled down to the main frame sections. The frame sections were then stripped and repainted to match the colour of the customer’s new machine. Every component was cleaned, inspected and repaired as necessary. The press was fitted with a new automatic print lift system interfaced electrically with the customer’s existing machine. New safety guards were designed, installed and electrically interlocked in accordance with current legislation. Components including replacement gears, print rollers, and bronze bearings were all manufactured and replaced in order that the printing press was delivered to the customer in supreme condition.

Lifting equipment – Bespoke Lifting Attachments

Apex design and manufacture a whole range of lifting attachments designed for specific lifting applications. Ranging from a small scissors grab to a large slewing beam Apex will design and manufacture the equipment suitable for your application. Current projects recently completed include a 6 meter long slewing beam with a capacity of 1500KG and a 4 meter long slewing beam with a capacity of 10,000KG. The rotation of each beam is powered by a servo controlled electric motor and gearbox.

Print & Packaging - Safety Access Platforms

In cooperation with the British Print Industry Health & Safety officers Apex was recently commissioned to design and manufacture a range of B-spoke safety access platforms for various printing presses (see picture opposite). With the continuing H&S improvements required concerning operator’s access at height, this type of problem is common throughout industry.

Following a site survey we will propose a suitable design and submit customer approval drawings before manufacture. Here at Apex we utilise our experience and expertise to harmonise the Health & Safety requirements with the practical operating issues when introducing this type of equipment. The picture opposite shows a B-spoke access platform manufactured in aluminum, easy to maneuver but extremely robust.

Material Handling - Reel Handling Cart

The Apex “CombiLift” is one of the many material handling machines designed and built by Apex. The “CombiLift” was originally manufactured to offer customers a simple to operate low budget lifting machine capable of transporting small reels of material (see picture opposite). The CombiLift range starts with a pedestrian push/pull model and a manually operated hand winch to raise and lower the reel. The primary aim of this model is minimal maintenance and ease of use. Battery powered hydraulic lift models are also available. Today’s market place is flooded with a variety of standard lifting machines but here at Apex we ensure that every “CombiLift” is designed to suit the customer’s exact requirements. Your application may need special castors that will not damage the floor, it may need reversed legs to get in close to the machine, it could be a specific colour to suit your corporate image or you could have it manufactured in stainless steel. With a range of attachments also available we are sure we have a “CombiLift” that will suit your application.
